A Military Odyssey 2014

Despite many excellent re-enactment groups – including The Die Hards, Southern Skirmish Association, The Civil War Society (formerly the Sealed knot) and many others – the highlight for me was undoubtedly the opportunity to see 2 Avro Lancaster in formation. Our Own Battle Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster was joined by the Lancaster from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. The Lancasters, flanked by Spitfires, flew right over the middle of the show ground making several passes and just as I came out of the side door of the bar.

Other highlights for me were the crashed ‘red baron’ Fokker Dr.1 Triplane, World War I tank (a Mk IV male).

We were fortunate to have dry weather with an acceptable measure of sunshine, so not too hot.
